Brighton & Bayside to Melbourne Airport: Taxi Route and Costs

20 August 20264 min read

Brighton and Bentleigh sit about 38 km from Melbourne Airport. The map makes it look like a straightforward drive, but the route crosses the inner city, so the traffic profile matters far more than the distance. Off-peak, allow 38 minutes; in the morning peak, allow an hour.

Two routes, different days

  • Nepean Highway to CityLink and the Tullamarine Freeway — the default, and fastest outside peak.
  • Via the Monash and CityLink — sometimes better when Nepean Highway is congested near St Kilda Junction.
  • Late at night, Nepean Highway is clear the whole way and this becomes a 33-minute run.

What you will pay

The fare is the regulated Victorian meter: flag fall, per-kilometre above 21 km/h, per-minute below it, plus CityLink tolls. On the bayside run the peak-hour penalty is real, because a good share of the trip is spent under the speed threshold through the inner suburbs. Travelling before 6:30am or after 8pm is the single biggest saving available.
