Taxi From Melbourne Airport to the Western Suburbs
Melbourne Airport sits on the north-western edge of the city, which makes the western suburbs some of the quickest airport runs in Melbourne. Most of them avoid the CBD entirely, and several avoid tolls as well.
Distance and drive time from Tullamarine
| SUBURB | APPROX. DISTANCE | TYPICAL OFF-PEAK DRIVE |
|---|---|---|
| Sunshine | 17 km | 20 min |
| Footscray | 20 km | 22 min |
| Williamstown | 30 km | 30 min |
| Altona | 30 km | 30 min |
| Point Cook | 38 km | 35 min |
| Werribee | 45 km | 40 min |
Distances are road distances and drive times assume light traffic. Add 15–25 minutes in the weekday morning and evening peaks, particularly anywhere feeding onto the West Gate.
Routes we use
- Sunshine and Footscray — the Western Ring Road then the Sunshine or Ballarat Road exits. Short and usually toll-free.
- Altona, Williamstown and Point Cook — Western Ring Road to the Princes Freeway, staying south of the West Gate congestion.
- Werribee and beyond — straight down the Princes Freeway; the longest of the western runs but also the most consistent.
What the fare depends on
Victorian taxis run on regulated metered rates: flag fall, a per-kilometre rate while moving above 21 km/h, and a per-minute rate whenever the car is slower than that. Add the Melbourne Airport pickup fee and any tolls on the route. There is no surge pricing, so a wet Friday night costs the same rate as a Tuesday morning — only the time spent in traffic changes the total.

Groups and luggage
A premium sedan handles two to three passengers with normal luggage. A 6-seat SUV suits families with prams or golf bags. For a group of seven or more, or a family returning from a long-haul flight with a full trolley of cases, an 11-seat maxi is almost always cheaper than two separate cars and far easier to coordinate at arrivals.
Arriving at the airport
Give us your flight number when you book. We track the flight, so an early landing or a two-hour delay does not leave you without a car or paying waiting time. Your driver meets you at the terminal and helps with bags.
SE Premium Cabs runs 24/7 to and from all Melbourne Airport terminals. Call 0493 100 265 or book online for an upfront estimate.
