Early Morning Airport Taxi in Melbourne: 3am and 4am Pickups

16 August 20264 min read

The 6am departure is Melbourne's most popular flight slot, which makes 3am and 4am the busiest pickup times for us — and the hardest time of day to find a car on demand. If your flight leaves before 8am, book the night before at the latest.

What time should the car arrive?

Roads are clear before 5am, so travel times are at their best of the day. Work back from the check-in cut-off: two hours before a domestic flight, three before an international one, plus your travel time.

Those are guides, not guarantees — overnight roadworks on the Monash and CityLink are common and can add fifteen minutes. Padding a pre-dawn run is cheap insurance.

What you pay at that hour

Victorian metered rates change by band, not by demand. Between 5pm and 9am the overnight band applies; from 10pm to 4am on Friday and Saturday nights, and on major public holidays, the peak band applies instead. Either way the rate is published and regulated — there is no surge multiplier at 3am the way a rideshare app has.

Making sure the car actually turns up

  • Book the night before — pre-dawn availability is the first thing to disappear.
  • Give us a mobile number that will be awake; the driver sends an SMS on arrival rather than waking the street.
  • Confirm the exact street address and which side the driveway is on — house numbers are hard to read in the dark.
  • Ask for a courtesy call on arrival if you are worried about sleeping through.
  • Tell us your terminal so we drop you at the right departure door, not the far end of the roadway.

Lock in your early morning airport pickup

Coming back on a late-night arrival

The same logic applies in reverse. Give us your flight number and we track it — if you land at 1am after a two-hour delay, the pickup time moves with the flight and the waiting is free. That is the difference between a pre-booked chauffeur and joining the rank queue at an hour when the queue is longest.
